Dionisio and Imelda Ignacio are a very poor couple living in an urban poor community in Metro Manila. Dionisio is a labourer making hollow blocks for a construction company and Imelda runs a small grocery kiosk from her home while taking care of her four children.
Through the Surgical Treatment Programme, the Hands of Mercy team, were able to facilitate the clubfeet operation needed for their daughter, Menchie. After completing the therapy sessions, Menchie was able to wear shoes for the first time, which was a thrilling moment for her. Then through the Home Improvement Programme, the Ignacio’s were able to renovate their small wooden home, which gave them a larger and more secure structure to live in. Dionisio’s income is not enough to supply the daily needs for his family, so Hands of Mercy enrolled them in the Family Support Programme, where they receive monthly food assistance, and enrolled one of their children in the Child Sponsorship Programme. The Ignacio’s have now been given hope for a brighter future!
