Through this Programme, children and adults living in poverty who have been diagnosed with tuberculosis are provided with the necessary course of treatment to overcome the disease.
Through our committed team of Filipino staff, who coordinate the Hands of Mercy compassion Programmes, needy children and adults are screened for tuberculosis and treated if found to have the disease. Family members of an infected child are also screened and included in the treatment process if necessary. 90% of Filipinos are exposed to tuberculosis and the disease is particularly rampant within urban poor communities. The Hands of Mercy team responsible for this Programme administers the prescribed medication, gives training and guidance to parents over the correct methods of administering the drugs, and also facilitates the periodic consultations with the specialist pediatrician Hands of Mercy is working with. The medicines are distributed from the Hands of Mercy office, and are carefully monitored at all times. So far over 150 children and adults have successfully recovered from tuberculosis, while others continue to be treated.
In the Philippines, tuberculosis disproportionately affects the poor, who do not have access to adequate healthcare.
